What made this recording special was the chance for me to return to my family roots with the music
of The Salvation Army bands. With a long family history of brass players in the SA bands, this
recording gave me the opportunity to continue and keep the tradition alive.
From my early years I can remember the sounds of The Salvation Army bands being played on the family
record player, but more important was the music I heard from the cornet of my grandfather. It was
his sound I listened to while he would be practicing, and whether it was his personality or horn, it
was the sweetest thing I had ever heard.
Of special interest is the playing of my uncle, Bob Anthony, in the cornet section on this recording.
